Applications for Mississippi’s wild hog control program open Thursday
SUMMARY: Mississippi’s Wild Hog Control Program (WHCP) will accept applications from August 1 to August 15. The program, led by Commissioner Andy Gipson, aims to help landowners manage invasive wild hog populations, which cause over $60 million in damages annually in the state. The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce provides “smart” traps and training for effective hog control on agricultural lands. Applications are required to be submitted online and will be assessed based on available acres, past losses from hogs, and current trapping efforts. Cooperative applications for small land parcels are encouraged. Traps are available for one-month intervals.
