APD searching for shooter in deadly NE Austin shooting | FOX 7 Austin

SUMMARY: In Northeast Austin, multiple first responders and crime scene tape were seen at a business complex on 290 and Kadad Drive following numerous 911 calls reporting gunshots. Police arrived just before 6 PM, finding a person with serious injuries, who was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:26 PM. The victim’s identity remains undisclosed as authorities search for the shooter. The Austin Police Department’s homicide unit is leading the investigation. Notably, while 13 crimes, including one homicide, were reported in the area this year, overall crime has decreased by 40% compared to the same timeframe last year.

Austin police are still looking for the person responsible for the deadly shooting in Northeast Austin on Thursday night.

More than $225 million allocated to support rural law enforcement | Texas

SUMMARY: Texas has allocated over $225 million in grants to enhance law enforcement in rural areas, addressing salary and recruitment challenges. The Rural Law Enforcement Grant Program, established by SB 22 in 2023, aims to bridge funding gaps in under-resourced counties. In fiscal 2024, $125.7 million was awarded to 502 recipients, and $98.4 million in fiscal 2025 to 396 recipients. While the program has enabled significant salary increases and hiring, some sheriffs report that county officials are blocking funds for political reasons. Advocates suggest allowing direct applications from sheriffs for a more effective funding process.

SAPD, witnesses' videos offer different accounts of man officers used a 'Taser' on after crash
