SUMMARY: The number of potential victims in a surrogacy escrow scam is increasing, with many couples, like the Dallas couple John and Katie Lynch, losing significant sums while attempting to start families. After facing hardships with traditional methods, they chose surrogacy with a friend as the surrogate, using the Houston-based management company Seam for payments. However, the company’s owner, Dominique Side, is reportedly missing, and over $10 million in funds may have been misappropriated for personal use. The FBI is investigating, and many families, including those in urgent need of funds, are now filing reports, seeking justice.

The couple says even though they lost thousands of dollars, they still consider themselves lucky. The couple now has a healthy baby boy. But that’s not the case for dozens of other families.

State Representative Jalainda Jones, a UH alum, held an emergency town hall at Emancipation Park, addressing student concerns following incidents, including a recent rape and robbery. Students emphasized the need for increased campus policing and better support systems. Businessman Tillman Fertitta stated the campus wasn’t unsafe, eliciting frustration from students who feel vulnerable, especially at night.
