Amid losing streak, Southern Miss football’s Will Hall gives up play-calling duties
SUMMARY: After a six-game losing streak, Southern Miss football coach Will Hall has announced that he will no longer be calling plays for the team’s struggling offense. Offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Sam Gregg, as well as quarterbacks coach Jordy Joseph, will take over play-calling responsibilities. The change comes as Southern Miss ranks second to last in the Sun Belt in total offense and scoring this season. Hall plans to address the offensive issues in the offseason by potentially bringing in a new play-caller. The team’s next game will be on October 28 against Appalachian State.

Judge vacates her order for Clarksdale newspaper to remove editorial criticizing local leaders
SUMMARY: A Mississippi judge, Crystal Wise Martin, vacated her restraining order that forced the Clarksdale Press Register to remove a critical editorial after the city dropped its lawsuit against the paper. The editorial had criticized local officials for not notifying the newspaper about a meeting on a proposed tax on alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco. Free speech advocates condemned the original order as a violation of First Amendment rights. The city’s lawsuit claimed the editorial was libelous and detrimental to their lobbying efforts, while the newspaper faced support from organizations like the National Press Club and the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression.
