Base of Oyster Reef Restoration Project In the Mississippi Sound Completed

Two 50-acre reef sites near and contain eight experimental plots featuring limestone substrate reefs. The project aims to restore oyster populations and assess the impact on the sturgeon, a federally protected species. The initiative promises ecological and economic , enhancing the local ecosystem and supporting the oyster industry. Future phases will include contractor procurement for further enhancements in 2025.
