Amazon to construct Mississippi’s first utility-scale wind farm
SUMMARY: Amazon is creating Mississippi’s first utility-scale wind farm in Tunica County. The facility will feature 41 wind turbines that will generate clean energy from the winds of the Mississippi Delta. The wind farm will be a dual-use operation, allowing agricultural land to be used for farming crops like rice, soybeans, corn, and wheat. The project is expected to bring in significant tax revenue and create jobs in the area. Once operational, the wind farm will generate over 1,850 gigawatt-hours of clean energy, which can power approximately 174,600 homes each year. Amazon is committed to powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025 and is pursuing several renewable energy projects in the southeast region.

Gov. Tate Reeves vetoes legislation reforming CON laws, cites willingness to negotiate with lawmakers
SUMMARY: Governor Tate Reeves has vetoed House Bill 569, intended to reform Mississippi’s certificate of need (CON) laws, which require healthcare providers to obtain government approval for significant expenditures. The bill aimed to raise the expenditure thresholds and assess exemptions for small hospitals regarding dialysis centers. Reeves opposed it due to a late amendment by Senator Hob Bryan, which he argued violated the separation of powers and interfered with ongoing litigation involving specific hospitals. While Reeves supports CON reform, he insists that any changes must be equally applied. He may address the issue in an upcoming special session focused on the state budget.
