All residents at Memphis apartment with broken elevators should be relocated, attorneys agree
SUMMARY: At Serenity Towers in East Memphis, nearly 200 elderly and disabled residents are trapped in their apartments due to broken elevators, with no clear solution in sight. The building’s management, Millennia, has a history of unpaid bills, contributing to the repair delays. Attorneys agree on the need to relocate tenants temporarily, but there are no definitive answers regarding when or who will pay for it. Frustration is mounting as residents, some in wheelchairs, are unable to leave their apartments. Attorneys and HUD are working on finding a resolution, but it remains unclear when help will arrive.
Attorneys on both sides agreed that all of the 200 residents at Memphis’ Serenity Towers should be temporarily relocated.

Rapid growth in Portland, TN
SUMMARY: Portland has experienced significant growth, with its population increasing by 15% since 2010. This trend is expected to continue in 2025, driven by the development of new residential areas and Nashville’s growth. Housing in Portland remains 53% below the national average, making it an attractive option for new residents. Despite this growth, locals hope to maintain a small-town feel, avoiding large-scale commercial developments. To manage this change, the city launched the “Preserve Portland” plan, which will guide zoning and development. Officials remain optimistic about the future, especially with anticipated decreases in interest rates in 2025.
The city of Portland has seen substantial growth in recent years and that’s not expected to slow down in 2025.
