Alcorn County woman indicted for SNAP fraud
SUMMARY: An Alcorn County woman, Beverly Sandoval, was arrested for allegedly securing $27,078 in fraudulent SNAP benefits. Investigations by the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) indicated she lied about her household income. Securing an indictment in December 2023, local officials apprehended Sandoval nearly three months later. MDHS Executive Director Bob Anderson emphasized that the case underlines effective measures to detect and eliminate fraud in government programs. The MDHS Office of the Inspector General, established in August 2018, aims to prevent such misconduct.
