Alabama begins overtime tax exemption

SUMMARY: Alabama’s new overtime PID tax exemption is now in effect, allowing at least part of a worker’s overtime pay to be exempt from income taxes. Full-time employees’ overtime pay is excluded from gross income and therefore exempt from state income tax. The legislation will exempt overtime pay from the State’s 5% income tax starting in 2024, but the tax cut will expire in June 2025 unless lawmakers renew it.
