AG Paxton: Texas investigation into ActBlue uncovers suspicious donations | Texas
SUMMARY: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating ActBlue, a Democratic donation platform, for possible suspicious donations, prompting him to petition the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for new regulations to prevent straw donations. Allegations include the use of prepaid credit cards to mask identities of donors. Paxton argues that the existing measures are insufficient to safeguard against fraud, which could allow illegal foreign contributions and exceed contribution limits. Despite the scrutiny, ActBlue reported record contributions, with 6.9 million unique donors in Q3 2024 alone. ActBlue maintains that small donations fuel grassroots political engagement.

Robert Roberson was no show at House committee hearing | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: During a House committee meeting on criminal justice, death row inmate Robert Robertson was notably absent as the Attorney General labeled him a security risk. Chairman Joe Moody asserted the committee did not intend to create a constitutional crisis with its subpoena. The governor’s office filed a briefing claiming the committee overstepped its authority by halting Robertson’s execution, as clemency lies solely with the governor. A prayer was said by seminary students against the death penalty. Representative Drew Derby raised concerns about adherence to a law requiring appeals courts to address flawed science in Robertson’s shaken baby conviction, emphasizing the need for truth and justice.
Death row inmate Robert Roberson was a no show at a hearing on Monday. Roberson was subpoenaed by the House Jurisprudence Committee as a way to stop his execution that was set for last week.

SUMMARY: As early voting commenced in Texas, recent polls reveal that former President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz lead their Democratic challengers, Kamala Harris and Collin Allred, by five and four points, respectively. Key voter concerns include the economy, inflation, and immigration. A significant 63% of voters believe the country is on the wrong track, with 53% disapproving of President Joe Biden‘s performance, compared to 51% approval for Governor Greg Abbott. Trump’s support among Latino voters has notably increased, while Harris’s leads with women and young voters cannot compensate for Trump’s strength among traditional Republican demographics.
