AG Fitch sues 2 companies for making 1,000 unauthorized calls in Mississippi
SUMMARY: Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch has filed lawsuits against The Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation and NaturaLawn of America for making unauthorized calls to residents on the state’s “Do Not Call” registry. The lawsuit alleges that the companies violated the Mississippi Telephone Solicitation Act. The recently-implemented House Bill 1225 transferred authority for state telemarketing laws from the public service commission to the AG’s office, making it the sole enforcement agency for investigating and prosecuting violators. Fitch urged residents who received calls from the companies to report them and help hold the violators accountable. The lawsuit is ongoing.
