Advancements in tech connect Morgan Nick's DNA to suspect

SUMMARY: Since 2018, the lab has assisted in solving numerous unsolved cases, including the investigation of Morgan Nick. Previously, the FBI faced challenges constructing a DNA profile from a hair sample due to insufficient DNA. Last December, the lab took on the case after receiving a hair believed to belong to Nick, found in a truck owned by Billy Jack Lyke. Despite the sample being degraded and rootless, the lab successfully extracted DNA and built a genetic profile. This profile was compared with familial markers, leading to the confirmation that Morgan Nick had been in Lyke’s truck at some point.

The technology connected Morgan Nick’s disappearance to a suspect by extracting DNA from a 30-year-old hair strand. Here’s how.
