Adams County domestic disturbance leaves one dead
SUMMARY: A domestic disturbance on Father’s Day in Adams County, Mississippi, resulted in the death of a man named Calvin Carter. Sheriff Travis Patten reported that E911 Dispatch received a distress call from a woman on June 16. Adams County deputies were dispatched after learning from Randrell Jones that an altercation occurred between his mother, Tawana Jones, and her estranged husband, Calvin. Calvin had taken Tawana at gunpoint. Gunshots were heard shortly after. Both were taken to Merit Health Natchez, where Calvin died from his injuries. Tawana suffered injuries but was released. No arrests have been made, and the investigation continues.

SUMMARY: Jackson police are investigating the discovery of 76-year-old Arthur Ray Mikell’s body, found in a wooded area east of South Gallatin Street. Mikell had been reported missing on September 17, 2024. His vehicle, a white 2012 Dodge Ram 1500, was also recovered. Detective Tommie Brown noted that the cause of death remains under investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information on the case to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
