SUMMARY: The Mississippi House of Representatives passed House Bill 1193, which would prohibit public educational institutions from creating or promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. The bill aims to eliminate practices like diversity statements, diversity training, and the teaching of transgender ideology. It also requires that schools teach there are only two genders based on chromosomal makeup. Critics argue the bill would harm marginalized communities and erase opportunities for inclusive policies, while supporters believe it promotes merit-based systems. The bill mandates annual reports from schools and allows complaints and lawsuits against noncompliant institutions.
