AccelerateMS promotes from within, naming Dr. Courtney Taylor new executive director
SUMMARY: Dr. Courtney Taylor has been promoted to Executive Director of Mississippi’s workforce development office, AccelerateMS. Formerly the deputy director, she has been instrumental in developing the workforce and enhancing the state’s economic health since November 2021. Governor Tate Reeves praised Taylor’s leadership skills and past contributions to workforce training. Taylor, with over 15 years of experience in higher education and workforce development, including roles at East Mississippi Community College and the Alabama Community College System, holds advanced degrees in business and human capital development. She will replace Ryan Miller on March 16, as he moves to a new role as CEO of the Oxford-Lafayette Economic Development Foundation.

MCBB: Mississippi State drops to No. 24, Ole Miss knocked out of AP Top 25

Hinds County sheriff: Deputy killed while responding to domestic call in Terry
SUMMARY: Hinds County sheriff’s deputy Martin Shields Jr., 37, was killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic call in Terry. Sheriff Tyree Jones confirmed the tragic news on social media, stating that Shields had been with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office for approximately nine months, though his law enforcement career spanned longer. Also found dead at the scene was Eric Brown, 42, who is suspected of being the shooter. A SWAT team was activated, and an initial “be on the lookout” alert for Brown was issued but later canceled when no active threat was detected. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
