Cooler afternoons, defined as highs at or below 80, have not yet occurred this year; historically, the latest on record was October 24, 2015. The next week is expected to stay in the lower 90s, with a slight chance of rain (20%) this Saturday and Sunday due to an upper-level disturbance. Long-term forecasts indicate above-average temperatures for San Antonio and much of the Central and Western U.S. with no immediate signs of cooler air from Canada.

LA POPULATION DECLINE
SUMMARY: Concerns are rising about Louisiana‘s economic and demographic stability, as many residents are leaving the state for better opportunities elsewhere. While efforts to attract large corporations, such as Amazon, aim to boost employment with higher-paying jobs, underlying issues persist. Key challenges include inadequate infrastructureโlike roads, bridges, and broadbandโand educational development necessary for workforce growth. Louisiana faces economic hurdles, including limited job opportunities, lower wages, and high poverty rates compared to the national average. This has led to a population decline of over 84,000 people between 2020 and 2023, prompting questions about the state’s long-term viability.

A focused look at possible tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico
SUMMARY: Hurricane Kirk and a developing tropical depression are currently affecting the tropics, with the next storm potentially named Leslie. The Gulf has had a 40% chance of development, but forecasts remain uncertain. While there are clusters of storms, significant rain is expected mainly along the Gulf Coast. The best chance for precipitation will occur from Thursday into Friday, with temperatures ranging from the 60s to upper 80s. Although scattered storms are probable, the front should push more severe weather to the south, leaving the north shore relatively dry. The forecast looks favorable for the Gretna Fest this weekend.
Meteorologist Devon Lucie breaks down what’s happening in the tropics, specifically what is coming into focus on possible development in the Gulf of Mexico and how it plays into our rain chances here and where a possible system is most likely to develop in the Gulf, how strong it will be, and who is expected to get the most impacts from it.
