A “Strawberry Moon” Ushers in the Summer Season
SUMMARY: Summer officially began on June 20 with the summer solstice, marking the year's longest day. The Sun reaches its highest point due to the Earth's maximum tilt. June's full moon, the Strawberry Moon, appears on June 21, a day after the solstice, making it the lowest full moon seen in years, coinciding with the solstice—a rare event occurring every 19-20 years. The Strawberry Moon, named for the ripening of strawberries, appears larger and more colorful due to thick horizon air. Historically, its name was used by Native American tribes to track seasons. European names include the Honey Moon and Mead Moon, linked to marriage traditions.

Let’s Go Fishing! | Our Mississippi Home
SUMMARY: This past weekend, we took our grandson to Elvis Presley Lake in Tupelo for a picnic and fishing adventure, evoking cherished childhood memories. Growing up, my favorite activities were often outdoors, like fishing with my dad. We used simple cane poles and dug our own worms, often finding them under a tin sheet in our yard. Dad patiently taught us fishing techniques, often dealing with tangled lines and celebrating each catch. Reflecting on my own independent streak, I saw similarities in my grandson. These experiences taught me the value of time spent together, embodied by my father's unwavering patience and love.
