A sneak peek Moody Gardens’ Ice Land: 2 million pounds of ice
SUMMARY: Moody Gardens is preparing for the holiday season with its Iceland exhibit, showcasing intricate ice sculptures that journey from the North Pole to the South Pole. Meteorologist D. Swad provides a behind-the-scenes look at the exhibit, featuring skilled ice carvers from China. The sculptures use tempura paint mixed with milk to achieve vibrant colors and fine details. The lead carver notes that the optimal working temperature is between 15 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit for precision. Visitors can appreciate the artistry and enjoy refreshments at the Ice Bar in Galveston, making it a festive attraction.
The countdown begins at Moody Garden for the Ice Land opening, but the work has been happening for months.

Court rules Biden’s broad amnesty plan illegal | National
SUMMARY: A federal judge in Texas has struck down President Biden’s immigration plan that aimed to expedite citizenship for illegal foreign nationals married to U.S. citizens. The plan included expanding DACA protections and creating a “Keeping Families Together” program to grant “parole in place” (PIP) status to noncitizens. Texas and 16 other states sued, claiming this violated federal law. Judge J. Campbell Barker ruled that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) lacked the authority to implement the PIP program, halting its execution and blocking the amnesty plan amid claims of escalating illegal border crossings under Biden’s administration.

Houston man held on $5 million bond in neighbor’s murder after community fights to keep him jailed
SUMMARY: Residents in northwest Houston united to demand justice for Heather Smith, a mother killed in her home in August. Christopher Brazil, a neighbor charged with her murder, has a history of alarming incidents, including a prior arrest for deadly conduct. A judge has set his bond at $5 million after a petition with 532 signatures from concerned neighbors highlighted fears of his release. Heather’s family supports the bond amount, and if Brazil posts bail, he is prohibited from returning to the neighborhood and must wear an ankle monitor. The community continues to advocate for safety and justice.
A Houston man accused of fatally shooting his neighbor is now held on a $5 million bond after more than 500 local residents signed a petition requesting he be denied bail.
Christopher Braziel, who reportedly did not know Heather Smith personally but lived in her northwest Harris County neighborhood, is charged with capital murder following the October break-in and shooting.

Red wave in Texas appellate courts, two flipped in Democratic strongholds | Texas
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, Texas voters elected Republican judges to appellate courts, flipping two courts in traditionally Democratic areas. All incumbent Democratic justices were ousted from the 1st and 14th Courts of Appeals, which handle civil and criminal cases. Republicans also won significant victories in the 4th, 5th, and 13th Courts, securing majorities in these previously Democratic strongholds. Overall, Republicans were successful across five courts, while nine incumbent Republican justices were reelected. A nonpartisan movement driven by rising crime urged voter change, and substantial financial support, including from billionaire Elon Musk, enhanced Republican judicial efforts, contributing to a notable election result shift in Texas.
