A look at Covid cases in Houston
SUMMARY: Since the pandemic began, experts have identified two COVID-19 waves in the Houston area, with the winter wave peaking in January-February and the current summer wave. Dr. David Pur, Houston’s chief medical officer, reported an increase in COVID levels in wastewater, currently at 333% of the July 2020 benchmark, signaling the ongoing summer wave. While hospitalizations remain lower than before, there are still concerns, especially with children returning to school. Vaccination is crucial for those at risk, including the very young and elderly, and an updated vaccine is expected this fall. Antiviral treatments are available for symptomatic patients.

Tropical Storm Francine's path
SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Francine has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is rapidly strengthening, with hurricane hunters reporting a drop in pressure down to 995 millibars. Currently at 50 mph winds, it is expected to become a hurricane, potentially reaching Category 1 or even Category 2 strength before making landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday. Hurricane watches have been issued for much of the Louisiana coast, with tropical storm warnings extending into Southeast Texas. The storm is anticipated to bring life-threatening storm surges of 5 to 10 feet and heavy rainfall, particularly across Louisiana. Coastal flooding is also expected.

Children of missing 61-year-old Missouri City woman plead for help
SUMMARY: Janice Thwn and her brother John are urgently seeking help to locate their mother, Karen Miles, missing since August 21, 2024. Texas win over Michigan establishes Longhorns as national title contender | FOX 7 Austin
