SUMMARY: Due to recent changes in classifications by the MHSAA, many prep football teams in the “Southern Six” are facing an uncharted territory. Teams that were affected by the expansion now have to find two more out-of-region games to complete their 11-game regular season schedule. As a result, league play for most teams won’t start until the first Friday in October. Despite unfamiliar opponents, there are seven games in the “Southern Six” to keep an eye on this week, including matchups between highly-ranked teams Ocean Springs and Picayune, as well as Hancock and Vancleave.
