North Carolina Governor announces grants for Helene survivors
SUMMARY: Western North Carolina is still recovering from Hurricane Helene, with Governor Josh Stein proposing additional funding to aid the recovery. Stein announced a $30 million grant program for small businesses and is requesting over $1 billion to support immediate rebuilding needs in the region. The local Manna Food Bank, which serves 16 counties, remains crucial for those in need. Many residents report insufficient financial aid from FEMA and insurance, intensifying the urgency for support as the tourism season approaches. Applications for the new funds are open now, with additional programs for farmers and food banks expected later this year.
