Next steps for school security in Nashville
SUMMARY: After the Antioch High School shooting, Metro councilman David Benton is advocating for improved school security, including the use of advanced systems like the Evolv weapon detection technology. Heartbroken yet determined, Benton is collaborating with Nashville International Airport’s CEO, Doug Kruins, to explore solutions. The Evolv system, already used at major venues like Nissan Stadium, utilizes AI and sensors to identify threats without inconveniencing individuals. While more expensive than traditional metal detectors, Benton believes if proven efficient, it could enhance safety. He urges collaboration among the community, school district, and police to implement effective measures moving forward.
