Roundabout opening part of major I-55 improvements in Jefferson County
SUMMARY: Residents provided feedback on a new roundabout opened by MoDOT near the Festus exit off Interstate 55, part of a $246 million project aimed at improving traffic and safety. While some drivers appreciate the enhanced visibility, others are confused by the new layout, leading to minor accidents and fender benders. Tow truck operator Chad Smith noted an uptick in incidents, including a driver who ended up in mud due to misjudgment. Many locals hope that the confusion will lessen over time, as they adjust to the change. Drivers are reminded to yield to those already in the roundabout for safety.
The latest roundabout section in the southeast section of the Interstate 55 and Route 67 interchange in Festus is now open.

Bipartisan legislation aims to ban child marriage in Mo.
SUMMARY: Missouri lawmakers are renewing efforts to ban child marriage after a previous attempt failed. Currently, 16- and 17-year-olds can marry with parental consent if their spouse is under 21. Senate Bill 66 would ban marriage for anyone under 18 to prevent abuse. Survivors, including Sheena Eastburn and Brandy Dredge, testified about enduring trauma from child marriages. Former Sen. Holly Thompson Rehder also shared her experience. Missouri raised the minimum marriage age from 15 to 16 in 2018, but concerns remain. The bill has bipartisan support, with Sen. Tracy McCreery and Sen. Rick Brattin pushing for its passage.

MSU President Explains DEI Cuts; Students on both sides react
SUMMARY: Missouri State University (MSU) has eliminated its DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs, including the Office of Inclusive Engagement, citing state political pressures and funding considerations. While some students express concern over the impact on marginalized communities, others support the move, arguing it prioritizes academic merit over diversity-based programs. MSU President Richard Williams believes the decision won’t harm student recruitment or retention. Students affected by the cuts voice frustration, especially those relying on DEI scholarships and support. The university assures that current scholarships will be honored, and affected staff will be reassigned within the university.
