Belhaven baseball finds new home at Trustmark Park
SUMMARY: The Belhaven baseball team will play its upcoming season at Trustmark Park in Pearl, a professional stadium that previously hosted the Mississippi Braves. This arrangement follows multiple venue changes since 2020, most recently at Smith-Wills Stadium. Trustmark Park will accommodate both Belhaven and the Mississippi Mud Monsters, who now share the field. Belhaven, competing in Division III, has enjoyed five consecutive winning seasons despite not having a stadium on campus. The Blazers will kick off their season with a home series against Mount Saint Mary on February 14, and will practice at Trustmark Park leading up to their season.

Judge rules Southern Miss basketball’s John Wade III eligible to play immediately
SUMMARY: Southern Miss basketball player John Wade III has been granted immediate eligibility following a confidential settlement with the NCAA. Transferring from Stanislaus State for the 2024-25 season, Wade faced ineligibility for the first 18 games. After a federal judge dismissed a restraining order against the NCAA, new information led to an approval for an eligibility waiver based on extraordinary hardship during the 2022-23 academic year. Wade had previously received a medical redshirt at Cal State Northridge but was retroactively granted a mental hardship waiver. He is set to play for the Golden Eagles, who have struggled with an 8-10 record.

Supreme Court upholds law banning TikTok if not sold by Chinese parent company
SUMMARY: The Supreme Court unanimously upheld a federal law banning TikTok, unless it’s sold by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, citing national security risks over concerns about limiting speech for its 170 million U.S. users. While existing users can still access the app, new downloads and updates will cease post-law enforcement on January 19. TikTok has faced bipartisan scrutiny regarding user data and potential Chinese government influence, leading to its legal challenge. Despite rumored interest from potential buyers, including former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, ByteDance has indicated it won’t sell. President Biden’s administration has hinted at not enforcing the law initially.
