SUMMARY: Next week, skywatchers can observe an exciting celestial event with an alignment of up to six planets. Meteorologist Jenna Warner highlights that on January 15-16, Mars will be at its brightest due to its closest approach to Earth and being in opposition, allowing for detailed observation with telescopes. Additionally, a conjunction of Venus and Saturn will occur this Friday and Saturday, bringing the two planets closest together in the night sky. Viewers may need telescopes to see Uranus and Neptune during the upcoming planetary alignment, which features four or more planets lined up simultaneously.

In mid-January, the nighttime sky will put on a show for skywatchers and astronomers. Six planets will appear to align in their planetary paths and four will be bright enough to view with the naked eye. These planets will seem to form a line in the night sky, which is known as the ecliptic.

SUMMARY: The special counsel report by David Weiss defends the criminal investigations and convictions against Hunter Biden, asserting they were impartial and not influenced by partisan politics. Weiss criticized President Joe Biden’s statements during his son’s pardon, claiming they undermined public confidence in the Justice Department. The report emphasizes that Hunter knowingly lied on a gun purchase form while using drugs and failed to pay $1.4 million in taxes. Hunter’s legal team condemned the report, alleging prosecutorial abuse and political pressure, but Weiss countered that the prosecution exemplified equal justice under the law, regardless of one’s connections.

What is virga? The weather phenomenon explained

Published

on

www.youtube.com – WPDE ABC15 – 2025-01-13 16:58:10

SUMMARY: Verga is a meteorological phenomenon where rain falls from clouds but evaporates before reaching the ground. Earlier today, radar detected light showers in areas like the Low Country and Grand Strand, yet no actual rainfall was measured. Verga occurs when precipitation descends from a cloud base through a moist layer of air, but encounters a dry layer just above the surface, causing it to evaporate. This results in visible streaks or wispy tails beneath the cloud base, indicating rain is falling, but not reaching the ground. Meteorologist Jenna Warner explains this phenomenon’s formation and visibility.

Have you ever looked at a radar and noticed showers, but you don’t feel or see any rain?
This was exactly what occurred for parts of Monday, Jan. 13 as radar sites in Columbia and Wilmington showed spotty, light showers in the Low Country, the Pee Dee and the Grand Strand. While the radar looked like it was raining for some communities, those communities didn’t measure any rainfall at the surface.
