Income tax cut expected to be a top priority as Kentucky lawmakers convene for a 30-day session
SUMMARY: Kentucky’s Republican lawmakers recently overrode the governor’s veto to reinstate landlords’ rights to reject federal housing voucher users, while also convening a session focusing on reducing the individual income tax rate and limiting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs at universities. The proposed tax cut aims to lower the rate to 3.5% by 2026, reversing previous measures under Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear. Lawmakers also discussed Medicaid oversight amid potential adjustments to the state’s two-year budget. This 30-day legislative session sets the agenda, with Republicans holding supermajorities in both chambers and the power to override gubernatorial vetoes.
