SUMMARY: In 2024, KXAN’s investigations prompted significant changes in Texas. They uncovered key evidence in the mysterious death of a 14-year-old girl, leading to a revised autopsy. A fatal crash into an Austin ER resulted in new safety ordinances for hospitals and statewide legislation for bollards. A report on a tutor with a misconduct history led to new legislation expanding access to state records. KXAN also highlighted gaps in Texas’ truancy tracking system and the need to modernize the state’s death inquest system. New vehicle inspection laws in Texas
SUMMARY: Starting tomorrow, several new laws in Texas will take effect, notably the elimination of vehicle inspections for most drivers. However, in North Texas, residents still need to undergo emissions testing, particularly in larger counties like Dallas and Denton, due to pollution concerns. While traditional vehicle inspections are no longer required, a $7.50 registration fee remains applicable. AAA emphasizes the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and inspections to ensure safety. Additionally, other new laws concerning privacy and property taxes will also be implemented, with the legislature returning to Austin on the 14th to introduce further legislation.
Laws impacting state inspections, property tax and how you can manage your digital privacy will all go into effect in Texas for the new year.
