Multi-vehicle crash shut down I-70 for several hours overnight
SUMMARY: A serious crash on Interstate 70 West in Earth City shut down the highway for about four hours early this morning, involving at least six cars. This incident is part of a troubling trend, as Missouri Highway Patrol has responded to over 60 crashes in just two days during the holiday travel week. Emergency crews reported a traumatic cardiac arrest and at least two people partially ejected from their vehicles. Despite this, crash statistics show fewer incidents this Christmas compared to last year. Rain has made road conditions slick, contributing to accidents during the holiday travel period.
The accident occurred on westbound I-270 in Earth City around 12:30 a.m. Friday morning. The crash involved at least 6 vehicles and a number of cars could be seen spattered across the interstate, sustaining serious damage. Following the crash, traffic was diverted onto Missouri Route 141 for four hours while crews cleared the scene.
