Louisiana residents list crime as one of state’s most pressing issues | Louisiana
SUMMARY: In Louisiana, crime rates have decreased across the state, but public perception remains high, with 72% of residents feeling crime has increased in recent years. Despite this, violent and property crime statistics show improvements, including a 38% decrease in murders in New Orleans. Other crimes like auto theft and carjacking have also declined. Louisiana remains high in national crime rankings, with the state 50th in murders per capita and 46th in assaults. Despite a reduction in crime, cities like New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport still face significant crime challenges. Legislative efforts and post-pandemic adjustments may contribute to the decrease.
