‘They don’t have to live that label.’ Down Syndrome Society Moms encourage inclusion
SUMMARY: The Grand Strand Down Syndrome Society, our community partner this month, works to spread awareness about Down syndrome. Ezra, a Bojangles employee in Conway, has thrived for four years, greeting customers, maintaining the lobby, and keeping the place spotless. Supported by the Society’s 321 group, Ezra has developed skills, made friends, and learned life skills. His mother, Wanda, emphasizes that Down syndrome is just a label, not a disadvantage. The Society offers programs for all ages, fostering community connections and advocating for awareness. It encourages treating individuals with Down syndrome like anyone else, without labels.
The Grand Strand Down Syndrome Society is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to supporting families in and around the Grand Strand area.
