Amazon workers strike at facilities around the country as Teamsters seek contract
SUMMARY: Amazon workers in New York City have launched a strike in collaboration with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, coinciding with the holiday shopping rush. The strike, starting at 6 a.m. on Staten Island, aims to pressure Amazon for better labor agreements, including higher wages and improved working conditions. The Teamsters, representing nearly 10,000 workers across 10 facilities, acted after Amazon ignored a union deadline for contract negotiations. Despite Amazon’s assertion that the strike will not disrupt operations, Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien criticized the company for its alleged greed and lack of respect for workers. Amazon disputes the Teamsters’ representation claims.
