SUMMARY: Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost lunar lander, built in Cedar Park, is set for a January launch to the moon from Cape Canaveral. The mission aims to be the first American-made spacecraft to land on the moon in 50 years. Firefly’s CEO Jason Kim emphasizes the importance of affordable, high-value lunar missions for a robust lunar economy. The mission, funded by an $11 million NASA contract, will carry 10 payloads for scientific experiments. Texas counties failed 800 times to report people for firearm background checks
SUMMARY: A Texas state audit revealed that district and county clerks failed to report over 800 cases of people found incompetent to stand trial to the Department of Public Safety (DPS), a critical step for flagging these individuals in federal firearm background checks. This breakdown, spanning from September 2018 to January 2024, raises concerns about public safety, as these individuals may attempt to purchase firearms. The audit also found significant reporting lapses in counties like Dallas, Bexar, and Smith. The issue mirrors previous failures in federal reporting, such as the Sutherland Springs shooting, prompting calls for better compliance and oversight.
