National Security Adviser Mike Waltz highlighted the need for accountability, suggesting potential offshore origins of the drones. DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed no known foreign involvement despite the surge. New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the implementation of a sophisticated drone detection system and urged Congress to enhance FAA oversight and empower local law enforcement. While officials received approximately 5,000 drone reports, only about 100 necessitated further investigation, leading some to label the reactions as overblown.
