Causeway Bridge crashes: 15 people still recovering, fire officials say
SUMMARY: A massive crash on the Causeway Bridge Tuesday involved over 60 vehicles in six separate incidents, but safety measures prevented a potential tragedy. The bridge’s strict safety protocols, including fog logs, rolling convoys, and flash warnings, helped manage the situation. Thick fog led to the crashes, and while 33 people were treated for injuries, there were no fatalities. Safety upgrades, such as added shoulder space and new guardrails, have helped prevent vehicles from plunging into the water. Officials report that since these improvements, crashes on the Causeway have decreased by at least 50%, potentially saving numerous lives.

New details in Wisconsin school shooting
SUMMARY: A 15-year-old shooter opened fire at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, killing a student and teacher, and injuring six others. Authorities are investigating her online activity and social connections to determine her motive. The weapon used by the shooter has been traced, but how she obtained it is unclear. Police believe the shooter wasn’t targeting specific individuals, but rather everyone was at risk. The community is mourning the loss, with vigils held in the aftermath. Security concerns have arisen, particularly why the school lacked a resource officer, with potential changes being considered for the future.
Police now say it was a second grade teacher who called 911, not a student. CBS’ Ian Lee has more from the scene.

Lafayette looks to zoning changes to address housing
SUMMARY: Lafayette is facing a housing affordability crisis, prompting LCG to consider changes in zoning policies to enable more affordable housing. A challenge arises from a new short-term rental (STR) ban in single-family neighborhoods, which constitute over 40% of the city’s land. LCG is exploring diversifying zoning regulations, particularly moving towards RS-2 zoning, which allows for denser housing like duplexes while maintaining many single-family zoning characteristics. This approach aims to increase housing options without upsetting homeowners. However, resistance remains, especially against any potential changes that might dilute the single-family zoning tradition, potentially impacting long-term urban planning and housing supply.
