Lexington gun violence in Lexington is down in 2024: Breaking down the numbers
SUMMARY: In 2024, Lexington has seen 20 homicides, a 50% drop from previous years, with 19 of those killings involving guns. While the decline is notable—down from 22 gun-related deaths in 2023 and 36 in 2021—gun violence remains a significant issue. Community organizations and citizens are working together to address the problem. In 2025, Lexington plans to hold forums to gather input from residents, helping to refine its strategy. The city has also partnered with the governor’s office, receiving $500,000, part of which will fund $10,000 scholarships for every high school in Lexington.
They’re more than just numbers; they’re the people who have lost their lives due to gun violence.
