Hurricane Helene leads to decrease in income tax revenue | Georgia

SUMMARY: In November, Georgia’s tax revenues increased to nearly $2.38 billion, rising by $52.9 million from the previous year. However, income tax collections fell by 8.3%, decreasing from $1.29 billion to $1.18 billion, partly due to extended tax breaks. Motor fuel taxes saw a significant increase, up $130.8 million after a previous suspension. Corporate tax payments also dropped by 25.7%. With a surplus exceeding $19 billion, Governor Kemp and lawmakers plan a $1 billion rebate for taxpayers, offering $250 to single filers, $375 to heads of household, and $500 for joint filers for the 2024 tax year.
