Petition urges food allergy measures after Disney influencer’s death
SUMMARY: A Change.org petition has been initiated following the tragic death of influencer Dominique Brown, who died from a severe allergic reaction after consuming food at a BoxLunch event in Los Angeles. Despite notifying staff of her life-threatening allergy, she was served a dish containing the allergen, and the venue lacked essential emergency resources like EpiPens. The petition urges California lawmakers to enforce laws requiring EpiPens at food venues, staff training for allergic reactions, and clear communication about allergens. As of Monday, it has garnered over 17,000 signatures. BoxLunch has begun an investigation and is offering grief counseling for its team.

UTMB Galveston first in Texas to use AI for routine cancer diagnosis
SUMMARY: UTMB Galveston pathologists have integrated an AI tool for prostate cancer diagnosis, becoming Texas’s first academic healthcare center to do so. The AI generates digital overlays on prostate biopsies to enhance diagnosis accuracy, even identifying cancers previously overlooked by human pathologists. Dr. Mike Laposata emphasizes the combined efforts of human and machine significantly reduce the risk of missing tumors. The next goal is to apply this technology to breast biopsies. Meanwhile, discussions about banning artificial food colors continue, notably red dye number three, amid health concerns, although Texas has not enacted a ban like some other states.
UTMB said they are the first academic healthcare center in Texas to add an artificial intelligence-based tool to its routine workflow for the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
