Congressional bicameral team pushes for insurance, pharmaceutical reform | National
SUMMARY: Legislators in Washington, D.C., are pushing for bipartisan insurance and pharmaceutical reforms before year-end, focusing on pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reform to protect small pharmacies. Rep. Buddy Carter emphasized that all parties seek accessible, affordable quality healthcare. Concerns were raised about PBMs’ power, which can harm small pharmacies and raise prices. Carter, along with fellow representatives, called for a DOJ investigation into PBMs’ roles in the opioid crisis. The group aims to advance legislation enhancing transparency and reporting requirements for PBMs, as they are reportedly contributing to the decline of pharmacies across the U.S.

Governors push back on federal proposal to move National Guard units | National
SUMMARY: Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, as leaders of the National Governors Association, condemned a proposal allowing Air National Guard units to be reassigned to the U.S. Space Force without governors’ approval. Governors from all 55 states and territories oppose Legislative Proposal 480, which undermines state authority over National Guard units. The National Guard Association also opposes the move, citing legal and financial concerns. Despite being removed from the House version of the National Defense Authorization Act, the proposal remains in the Senate. Over 100 members of Congress support the governors’ stance against it.
