Winter Driving Tips: Slow down and have an emergency kit
SUMMARY: The Missouri Department of Transportation is preparing for winter weather, advising drivers to plan ahead, especially during the holiday season. Motorists should exercise caution, slow down, leave more distance from other vehicles, avoid cruise control on icy roads, and brake gently. It’s important to be aware that bridges freeze faster than regular roads. Drivers should also have an emergency kit in their cars, containing essentials like a phone charger, blanket, first aid kit, and snacks. AAA predicts over 3 million drivers will be on the road tomorrow, the busiest day, and recommends leaving before noon to avoid traffic. Fuel prices in St. Louis are slightly below the national average.
Missouri’s first snow of the season may mainly drop on Interstate 70 in the eastern half of the state on Saturday, affecting countless travelers driving home after Thanksgiving. 5 On Your Side meteorologists have issued a Weather Impact Alert Day on Saturday for that reason.
The vast majority of areas seeing any snow at all will only see a light dusting of up to an inch, according to the 5 On Your Side’s meteorologists. But, the incoming system may have a narrow band of heavier snow of up to three inches.
