Senior scams on the rise in Tennessee
SUMMARY: Scams targeting vulnerable populations, particularly seniors, are on the rise, with financial exploitation becoming increasingly common. According to the FTC, many older adults, who tend to be trusting and isolated, fall prey to deceptive phone calls from scammers posing as friends or service providers. In Davidson County, a surge in cases prompted an investigative team to track these incidents. One victim, No Williamson, lost $31,000 after a scammer falsely claimed to be from Apple, leading her to withdraw cash and deposit it into a Bitcoin ATM. Authorities advise those who have been scammed to monitor their credit and financial accounts.

More Knox Co. hospitals diagnosing people with 'walking pneumonia,' health department says
SUMMARY: The Knox County Health Department reports a rise in cases of walking pneumonia, or mycoplasma pneumonia, with more infections this year compared to last. This milder form of pneumonia primarily affects children, teens, and young adults, allowing individuals to continue their daily activities. Symptoms resemble those of a cold or flu, including fever, fatigue, shortness of breath, and a prolonged cough. If symptoms persist for over 10 days, a doctor visit is necessary for diagnosis, as there are no at-home tests. Treatment typically involves a course of antibiotics, and the condition is contagious.
Mycoplasma pneumonia can cause “walking pneumonia.” It usually causes a mild illness at first, giving people the impression they have a less severe infection.
