SUMMARY: The Pinellas County Commission has given the Tampa Bay Rays a deadline to decide on a $1.3 billion stadium deal for St. Petersburg, which was initially agreed upon in July. Chairwoman Kathleen Peters emphasized that the Rays, not the county, have stalled the deal by halting development work and citing issues with bond approvals. County officials disputed the Rays’ claims, stating they have until March 2025 to finalize their obligations. Meanwhile, ongoing repairs are needed at Tropicana Field after Hurricane Milton damaged its roof, with the team set to play its next season largely on the road and at a minor league park.

SUMMARY: Pinellas County leaders have given the Tampa Bay Rays a deadline until December 1st to commit to redevelopment plans at Tropicana Field. The county’s ultimatum has heightened tensions, as the team faces challenges from Hurricane Idalia damage and concerns about funding for a new stadium. While county commissioners insist they bear no responsibility for delays in funding votes, the Rays argue they cannot repair the Trop and build a new stadium by 2028.
