Abbott warns Texas Children’s: comply with immigration order or lose funding | Texas
SUMMARY: Gov. Greg Abbott reprimanded a Texas Children’s Hospital cardiologist, Dr. Tony Pastor, for posting a TikTok suggesting patients could ignore an executive order requiring hospitals to gather citizenship information from patients. Abbott warned the hospital of potential funding loss for non-compliance. The order, enacted in August, mandates that hospitals report costs incurred for illegal foreign nationals and aims to address the financial burden of healthcare for undocumented migrant patients. Texas Children’s Hospital declared its support for the order, stating doctors’ personal views do not reflect the hospital’s stance. Abbott’s directive follows significant increases in illegal border crossings under the Biden administration.
