Missing shrimper’s body found after Coast Guard calls off search
SUMMARY: Richard Kopszywa, a 75-year-old Biloxi shrimper, was reported missing after his wife hadn’t heard from him following a fishing trip. The U.S. Coast Guard found his abandoned boat about five miles from the Biloxi coast and searched over 1,000 nautical square miles using multiple vessels and aircraft. After the search was called off, paddleboarders discovered Kopszywa’s body, which was later confirmed by authorities. Initially, the Biloxi Police Department was uncertain about the identification, but the county coroner validated it later that day. The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and Gulf Islands National Seashore assisted in the search efforts.

SUMMARY: William Green Poindexter, a longtime Mississippi lawmaker and former Inverness mayor, passed away at 80 on November 26, 2024. Born on January 10, 1944, in Greenwood, he graduated from Mississippi State University in 1967. Poindexter’s political career began in 1971 when he became the youngest mayor of Inverness at 27. He served in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1976 to 1993, representing three Delta districts.
