SUMMARY: Sheila AG, mother of Home Depot shooter Keith AG, is on trial for principal to first-degree murder for allegedly encouraging her son to kill his child’s mother, Brooklyn Sims, in a shooting at a Home Depot in Pensacola on August 11, 2023. Keith, who was sentenced to life in prison for murder, had wrongly blamed Sims for contracting an STD. Testimony revealed texts where Sheila suggested ways for Keith to carry out the act, while her defense argues she did not intend for the shooting. If convicted, Sheila faces life in prison as well.

Sheila Agee sat in court Tuesday as day one of testimony started.

SUMMARY: The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences has opened a new regional facility in Huntsville for testing evidence related to drug and DNA in violent crime cases across North Alabama. This upgraded laboratory aims to streamline the processing of cases, reducing the average DNA testing turnaround from 90 days. The previous facility, built in the 1960s, could only conduct one autopsy at a time, while the new morgue can handle three simultaneously. With rising crime rates and daily overdose deaths, the facility will enhance forensic services for law enforcement and support timely results for families and the justice system.

SUMMARY: During a recent training session, local educators learned vital skills to respond to potential school shootings, including how to distract and disarm an assailant and administer first aid, such as applying a tourniquet. Members of the Central Alabama American Federation for Teachers emphasized the importance of being prepared, as emergency supplies in classrooms are often limited. AFT President Erica Hughes noted the necessity for teachers and staff to be equipped with these skills, reinforcing that while they hope to never need them, preparedness is crucial. Hughes and her colleagues plan to train more educators in these critical response techniques.
