Judge dismisses some evidence in murder trial for killing of Laken Riley
SUMMARY: The parties presented three stipulations for the fact finder to consider. The first involves forensic toxicologist Carla Turner’s test of a liquid from a Styrofoam cup, revealing 65 proof ethyl alcohol. The second stipulation involves latent print examiner Ashley Hos’s processing of items with negative results for latent prints. The third stipulation covers testimony from Sergeant Tim Stewart and Amanda Blair, which was previously admitted in a Daubert hearing, and their transcripts will be entered into evidence. Additionally, evidence from music videos and translated phone calls was excluded for being irrelevant or violating the confrontation clause.
The trial of a man accused of killing nursing student Laken Riley continues in Athens.
Jose Ibarra, charged in Riley’s February death, waived his right to a jury trial, leaving Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard to decide his fate.
