SUMMARY: Ocean Springs officials held their first public forum to discuss zoning for newly annexed areas, aiming to reflect residents’ needs without disrupting property use. However, many residents found the provided materials—charts, maps, and PowerPoint slides—overwhelming and confusing. Some attendees expressed frustration, feeling their questions remained unanswered, particularly regarding wetland filling and agricultural designation concerns. There are hopes that these meetings will lead to genuine representation of citizen interests, rather than being mere formalities. A second forum is scheduled for December 9th at the Ocean Springs Civic Center to continue addressing community concerns about the annexation.

After annexing more land for the city, new zoning has to be done in Ocean Springs.

SUMMARY: Senior citizens are particularly vulnerable to financial exploitation, often exacerbated by memory loss. Financial expert Gregory RX highlights key signs to monitor in elderly loved ones, such as forgetfulness, becoming lost in familiar places, and mistakes in managing finances. These signs may indicate the need for intervention. Common issues include forgetting to pay bills or mistakenly believing charitable donations are bills. Gregory emphasizes the importance of open communication regarding estate planning and financial power of attorney to safeguard against potential threats. Caregivers should foster ongoing discussions about health and finances, approaching these topics gently and without pressure.

Senior citizens’ vulnerability to scammers is often talked about, but many don’t realize seniors are also in danger of losing money due to memory loss.

SUMMARY: The newly built M Avenue overpass has reopened, ending a 16-month detour for local commuters like Jennifer Northrup. While some residents celebrate the convenience, concerns arise about increased traffic and changes to the area’s small-town vibe, particularly with the anticipated opening of Bies, an anchor business. Matt and Annette McBride are excited as the bridge brings them closer to Bies, which they hope will attract more visitors. To support this development, Harrison County issued a $15 million bond and a $5 million TIF agreement for area improvements. Bies is now expected to open in late spring or early summer instead of December.

The Menge Avenue overpass reopened Monday afternoon after being closed for 16 months.
