SUMMARY: The federal wrongful death lawsuit trial for former Dallas officer Amber Guyger began, following her conviction for murdering Botham Jean, whom she mistakenly shot in her own apartment. Representing herself, Guyger was absent from court as emotional body camera footage showed attempts to save Jean’s life. Testimony from a police expert deemed her use of deadly force unjustifiable, and Jean’s sister revealed the painful way the family learned of his death. The trial seeks to hold Guyger accountable and send a message to police about the consequences of hasty actions. The family attorneys emphasized Jean’s potential and loss.

Botham Jean’s family’s attorneys want the jurors to know the person, know his potential, and know the pain his family has been living with since his death.
