Expert Talks Alzheimer’s Awareness Month | Nov. 18, 2024 | News 19 at 4:30 p.m.
SUMMARY: Alzheimer’s disease affects over 6 million people in the U.S. and is the 7th leading cause of death. It causes molecular changes in the brain, leading to memory and function problems. Dr. A. Pepper, a geriatrician, explains that while there are medications to modestly slow progression, there is no cure. She suggests keeping patients safe, active, and engaged, along with a nutritious diet. Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s can be emotionally and physically taxing, both for patients and their loved ones. The Alzheimer’s Association offers resources for caregivers, including educational materials and local support options.
November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.
