Local employment groups ready to assist as more than 100 Boeing workers are laid off
SUMMARY: Boeing has laid off over 100 local workers as part of a nationwide reduction affecting 177,000 employees. This comes just before Christmas and follows protests for better pay amid furloughs. Most affected are assembly and process mechanics due to delays in the 777x aircraft’s delivery. Experts suggest that workers should remain calm and recognize this may be an opportunity for new career paths. Despite the layoffs, Boeing continues to support its employees by maintaining pay and health benefits until mid-January, while local agencies offer resources for resume and interview assistance.
The company says a delay in the 777X commercial aircraft being delivered is to blame for cutting staff. The local layoffs are part of a 17,000 employee reduction nationwide.

St. Louis County pauses property tax freeze applications for seniors
SUMMARY: St. Louis County’s senior tax freeze program is currently paused for system upgrades, expected to be completed by Monday morning. Over 30,000 applications have been submitted, with approximately 20,000 done online. The pause allows staff to address duplicate applications and improve system efficiency, which has faced challenges due to the influx of data-rich submissions. Director of Revenue Tony Smee noted that once operational, applications could be processed in about 4-5 minutes if applicants are prepared. The upgrade aims to streamline the application process before the June deadline, with potentially 100,000 more seniors eligible to apply.
A property tax freeze is currently on pause for St. Louis County seniors.
