District attorney in Oklahoma weighs in on challenges of prosecuting Brad Simpson’s murder case
SUMMARY: Brad Simpson is accused of murdering his wife, Suzanne, who has been missing for over five weeks. Prosecutors in Bear County believe they have sufficient evidence to charge him, despite her body not being found. Surveillance footage from various locations, including a fast-food restaurant and a Home Depot, places Simpson near suspicious purchases, including concrete and heavy-duty trash bags. His defense attorneys have filed a motion for a hearing to challenge the evidence and force the prosecutors to prove their case. Experts note that advancements in technology, such as surveillance video, are crucial in cases lacking a body.
As prosecutors build their case against Brad Simpson, they’re still missing a key piece of evidence — his wife’s body.

Texas Supreme Court opinion clears path for Robert Roberson’s execution
SUMMARY: The Texas Supreme Court has cleared the way for Robert Roberson’s execution, which was delayed after lawmakers requested his testimony, believing he may be innocent. The court ruled that lawmakers cannot block the execution but can still call Roberson to testify. His execution was originally scheduled for October 17th, but the Anderson County DA now has to file a new petition, and the execution could occur no earlier than 90 days after that. Lawmakers on the bipartisan committee, which previously called witnesses, maintain their belief in his innocence. Roberson’s attorneys may attempt a final appeal.
The Supreme Court ruled that lawmakers cannot stop executions through a legislative subpoena. The opinion clears the way for the execution of Roberson, who was convicted of murder in a 2002 shaken baby case.
